Where #Millennials are Looking at Your Company

Millennials have a lot more opportunities to research a company, and view what current employees are saying, more than ever before. Where do we find that information? You’re looking at it- the Internet. We have access to the dirty secrets that companies have tried to cover up for years. Who do we thank for that? Social media.

Here are the top three places we are finding information on companies:

1. LinkedIn

There are a lot of Millennials who are not even on linkedin, but go onto the site to see company information. We like this site because we are able to see how many connections we have to people who work at a certain company. By the time we are job hunting (and trust me on this), we know that it is all about who you know.

2. Glassdoor

If we haven’t deleted our social media accounts yet (and lets face it- we wont), it’s safe to say that we either like gossip or we at least don’t mind listening to it. That’s why we like Glassdoor- we get the low down on companies from people like us. This website lets us see what employees say and the advantages and disadvantages of working at a certain company. We also like this site, because we can get an idea of what salary to expect and a little more about the interview process.

3. Twitter

This is an easy one for us. Since more and more Millennials are starting to adopt twitter, we are easily able to search a keyword (such as a company) and view what people are saying about the company or its products. Like Glassdoor, we are able to use word-of-mouth in our research, which is a top influencer in social media.

What this means for companies: Make sure to monitor what people are saying about your company. Chances are, your future employees are monitoring this as well.

What this means for HR: Listen to online conversations (specifically on social networks) and take note of what we wrap our conversations around. This could be salary, benefits, atmosphere, etc.  With that, make sure that you are promoting your company in a way that interests us.

Do you have a favorite website you like to view company info on? Don’t hesitate to share!
